The Fostering Team

At The Fostering Team, we believe the first thing that makes a good Foster Carer is the ability to form genuine connections with children and focus on their best interests. Our carers are warm, empathetic, resilient people. They help children feel safe, valued, and supported as they build brighter futures.

A strong, trusting relationship between children and their carer is essential. Our foster carers act as dependable role models who turn up consistently to help children feel secure, enabling them to heal and grow. They understand that each child is unique and can adapt their parenting to meet individual needs, regardless of age or developmental stage.

A good Foster carer will possess qualities such as:
  • Empathy
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Patience and adaptability
  • A non-judgmental attitude
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Foster carers must commit to working alongside birth families, social workers, and therapists to support family contact wherever possible. They work as part of the “team around the child” to make the best decisions for their future.

Reflective thinking is crucial. Our carers help children make sense of their experiences and manage their emotions effectively. They also listen carefully and read body language and hidden feelings, providing calm and support during challenging times.

Resilience is key. Carers understand that progress isn’t always linear, and they handle setbacks with positivity and perseverance. They stay committed even when their relationship with the child is tested. This helps children learn that trust and consistency are possible.

Does the ‘Perfect’ Foster Carer Exist?

At The Fostering Team, we celebrate the individuality each carer brings. There is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ foster carer.  Your unique experiences, qualities, and strengths are what matter most, and all contribute to being a good foster carer.

We would love to hear from you if you want to find out more about becoming a foster carer with The Fostering Team. Get in touch today.
